Aroon Bhanu

An engineering graduate from the University of Kerala with distinction and a rank in 1991, Aroon joined the Mazagon Dock Ltd. the same year. A long career in piping design started and he believes the foundation for his subsequent development as a piping engineer was laid there. He gained invaluable experience across a variety of projects like ships, offshore platforms and even submarines till he decided to leave after 14 years of service. In between, he found time to do the reputed piping engineering course in IIT Bombay which cemented his knowledge in piping.

After leaving Mazagon Dock, Aroon continued his piping career in the Middle East for 10 years, in the Oil and Gas industry.

In 2016, he came back to lead the piping basic design work for two passenger ships in SEDS, a leading ship design organisation based in India. After successful completion of these projects he got busy with a host of ship retro-fit projects there. Having accomplished a sterling body of work in his career, he felt the need to give back to the younger generation whatever he could, from his knowledge and wide experience over a career spanning three decades in the industry.

Thus the Piping Institute or Pi as he fondly calls it, was born…

In 2020, Aroon was also appointed as a member of the prestigious ASME Standards Committee A13, to help develop Standards.
